Modules, templates and item codes
Every value in LetsGrow belongs to an item, every item belongs to a module, and every module follows a template. LetsGrow products read those modules, so a measurement that is not in a module can’t be seen by any of them.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”The structure
Section titled “The structure”| Level | What it is | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Module | One data source of your account. It has a number, a name, a template, a start date and sometimes an end date. | A climate module, a weather station, a crop registration module |
| Template | The kind of data a module collects | Climate Extended, Climate Monitor, Weather Station, Water, Plant Balance, Target Values, IPM Scout |
| Item | One measurement in a module, with an item code, a description, an explanation and a value type | Greenhouse temperature |
| Item code | The short code of the measurement | GHTEMP for greenhouse temperature, DRNPCT for drain percentage |
The description of an item is built as “Name - Unit - Interval”. The interval is “5 min”, “day” or “night”. The 24-hour version has no interval part. So the unit is part of the description, not a field of its own.
The same item code exists up to four times in a module, once per value type: 5-minute, day, night and 24-hour. The LetsGrow platform computes the day, night and 24-hour values. The Glossary says which period each one covers.
Per item code, LetsGrow also keeps names in several languages, an explanation and the way the value is summarised over a period: average, sum, maximum, minimum, the value at midnight, or not summarised.
Templates you meet most
Section titled “Templates you meet most”| Template | What the module holds | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Climate Extended | The greenhouse climate. Reports and forecast advice read climate from this module. | |
| Weather Station | The outside weather as measured | |
| Weather Solutions | The weather forecast. When a crop has more than one forecast module, Growi asks which one to use. | Weather forecast |
| IIVO Intelligent Ventilation | Tells Growi that the crop runs IIVO. The ventilation analysis itself works from the ventilation setpoints in the crop’s modules, whatever the climate computer. | IIVO ventilation analysis |
| Energy Prediction M.L. | The energy forecast stored in LetsGrow | Energy prices |
| NovaCropControl Crop | Samples taken at one moment, with a sample date: nutrients in young and old leaf, and EC, pH and nutrients in drip and drain water. Not continuous readings. | |
| Crop registration | Measurements of the crop itself. There are 55 of these templates, for tomato, cucumber, pepper, strawberry and other crops. |
In Intelligent Assistance
Section titled “In Intelligent Assistance”A crop is linked to a set of modules, and Growi reads only the modules linked to the crop you selected. See Choosing a crop.
When Growi can’t read a module of the crop because you have no access to it, it says you may lack access and suggests contacting LetsGrow. It does not treat this as missing data.
Growi keeps module numbers and item codes out of a normal answer. It gives one when you ask for it. An item code in your question selects that measurement directly. See Asking about your data.
Important concepts
Section titled “Important concepts”- Preferred module: when several modules of the crop carry the same item code, Growi prefers the Climate Extended module for greenhouse temperature, greenhouse RH and greenhouse CO2, so chat answers agree with reports and forecast advice. For every other measurement the module with the lowest module number comes first.
- Active module: a module is inactive for a period when its end date is before the period starts or its start date is after the period ends. A module without dates counts as active. Growi skips an inactive module when another module with the same item code is active. When the active modules have no values for the period, Growi falls back to a module that has ended.
Other platform terms are in the Glossary.
Limitations
Section titled “Limitations”- Growi only reads. It can’t write to a module or to your climate computer.
- Growi reads only the modules you have access to. See Which data Growi can access.
